THE OPTIMISTIC BOTTLE
The water bottle that rewards positive thinking.
BRIEF
The public have been bombarded with negative news about the Spanish economy. It’s getting people down. How can the brand that believes in the power of “optimism” help lift peoples moods?
INSIGHT
Much is known about the physical benefits of being well hydrated. But it’s also vital when it comes to mental health and feeling positive too.
IDEA
We turned a giant bottle of water into a national mood meter with the water level representing whether people were feeling optimistic or pessimistic in real time.
As the mood starts to fall so does the water level in the bottle. When the mood starts to lift again then the water in the bottle rises.
HOW IT WORKS
We created an interactive installation in a central location in Madrid during the summer. A 6 meter high bottle of water that reacted to the general sentiment of the country online.
We checked several popular Twitter hashtags to determine the mood of the country in real time.
When people were feeling down or pessimistic, the bottle would get emptied.
When people were feeling optimistic, the bottle would fill so you could see it half full.
Once full, it handed out cool water to hot and bothered shoppers.

THE DIGITAL EXPERIENCE
We created an interactive natural world that reacts to social media sentiment in real time. As the mood starts to fall so does the water level in the bottle. When the mood starts to lift again then the water in the bottle rises. The natural surroundings change to reflect the mood, from a dark night to a bright, sunny, happy day.
